Karl & Lindsay G Tiddlywinks not Forgotten August 24, 2011

Dearest JoAnn, Thank you for your wonderful example of peace and serenity during challenging times. Thank you God for our time with Doug.
There are so many vivid memories of Doug that have flooded into our hearts since learning of his transition.
Fun: We fondly remember playing tiddlywinks with Doug not long after he moved to Panama City (I think it was in the late 80s) from Central Florida.
Dogs: Bruno (sp) was a wild wonderful boy that we so enjoyed. Doug telling about the tame deer chasing Bruno around the yard was a hoot. Filmore is so refined, wish our dog could learn some of Filmore's manners.
Service:Doug's willingness to serve and encourage others makes the loss of his presence huge. Grateful that he will continue to encourage us through his saved bloggs.
Camping and Cancer Philosophy:We will think of Doug's encouragement to follow our dream as we camp at Grayton Beach State Park next week.

Dear Joann,

Even though I never met Doug it was as though I had always known him. Being that we all share the same dreams together makes us closer in the spirit. All of your travels have been our travels as we read each and every post. Thank goodness you have all those entries that Doug made over the years to re-live each and every day you shared together on your journey. We will miss his wit... and too will all those travelers out there that took time each day to read his entries.

One day we will all travel together again...

Pat Perrine Celebration August 12, 2011

Dearest Joann and Fillmore,  Doug would be saying the following:

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God has chosen for me.
I took His hand when I heard him call; I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way; I've now found peace at the end of day.
If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joys.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Oh yes, these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow Look for the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much; Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch.
Perhaps my time seems all to brief; Don't lengthen your pain with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and peace to thee,God wanted me now-He set me free

Sending much love and prayers your way...Doug will be missed but he is free

Dear JoAnn,

I am so so sorry you have to go though this sad time. I didn't know Doug well but I did know if you loved him he had to be a great man.

Love...Fred

JoAnn, Fillmore and Doug's Family,

I feel I knew Doug even though I only read his words.  Your blog has been so inspiring to me and so many followers.  Doug will be messed.  I am so glad you were able to follow your dream for so long, and I wish you more dream fulfillment in the future.
Vicki and Ken King Friends August 11, 2011

We are so happy that we got to spend time with you and Doug at Lake Mittry in '08 (I think). Then, we followed you guys out to Borrego Springs, CA. Which was beautiful. We have many fond memories of our times there with you both. I remember Doug driving us girls up the mountain to Julian, CA., for a day of shopping and a piece of Mom's apple pie. And he was the only guy to go. Brave Man! He was very nice and didn't complain even though it was very cold up there that day.

It was also our pleasure to host a small gathering of our friends to meet you guys when you came through Bella Vista, AR in the fall of '09. We enjoyed the evening and all the traveling stories that got told.

Doug will be missed. But he lives on in the hearts of all those that ever got to spend any time with him. And we are among those and are greatful. Love to you JoAnn and the family and Fillmore.

Darrell and Judy A True Inspiration August 11, 2011

JoAnn and Fillmore,

We've "bumped" into the three of you several times over the past couple years and it has always been a special blessing.  Your lifestyle, in spite of Doug's sickness, has been a "True Inspiration" to many.  We couldn't agree more with Doug when he says, "Live you dream now, don't wait until next year!"

We'll miss his words of wisdom and his wit in "Living Our Dream".  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.  We, the RVing family, are all sharing in your loss.

Joann, Susanne, Mark and Fillmore,

We all share your loss, but we also have gained much from Doug's zest for life, his wry wit, and his being so comfortable with being himself. There was only one Doug.  He so obviously loved life, his best mate, his children and his Fillmore.  I feel I have read a primer on life from many perspectives through his musings in "Living Our Dream".  His open approach to his life is truly inspirational.  God bless you with comfort.  you are in our prayers.
