Memories
Kathy & Larry Breau

It's never easy to say farewell to a dear friend.
One of our fondest memories of Doug is the day he got on stage at Unity and sang "It's a beautiful World". Of course, Larry was teary and I was inspired by Doug's courage to push through his fear and do something that was a dream......much like his whole life!
My personal favorite memory is of Doug's "John Wayne" portrayal of life....at least he liked to think we fell for it!! When Joann came into his life he turned to mush and the true Doug came out to play.
What a great teacher he's been for me....living one day at a time and being authentically who you are!
We Love and Miss you Doug. Thanks for being you....and for sharing your life with all of us.
Happy New Journey

We've spent a lot of wonderful time with Doug and Joann since we met them at Justins some years ago.

The thing I'll remember most fondly about Doug is his acerbic wit.  Few people had it honed to perfection the way he did.

Rest easy friend.

Joanne,
We first met you and Doug in the desert of Anza-Borrego, California. You introduced us to the Indian ceremony in a tepee and pizza in town. We followed Doug's blog and had the pleasure of your company and help when we had our truck worked on in Panama City, Florida. I wanted to try fried dill pickles so you took us to lunch where I could try them. You then showed us your church. It is beautiful Doug was wearing this shirt that's in the photo. It epitomizes his sense of humor and happy face. Doug gave us new ways to think about life and death. We will miss all of that and miss you as a couple. I hope we can stay in touch with you.
Love,
Larry and Joyce Space

Doug...Dad...

Where are you?  I'm missing you.   I loved watching squirrels with you and watching cows pass by as we explored the world together.
Thanks for the haircuts, (except for some of the early ones...they embarassed me), the pets, the toys.  Together as a trio we became famous RV'ers.
I'll take care of JoAnn...Mom...I'll be a big poodle for you.
I love you.

Memories...there are many.  Let's see...perhaps my first memory of my father...as a little girl around 3 or 4, you called me a "little round something with a curly tail." I delighted in the idea of this and yet had no idea what you meant.
Fun: We moved to Longwood, FL and spent a little time looking around for places to live.  I remember playing hide and seek with you. Once you lifted my little body up on the top shelf of a closet to hide.  I loved it.
Indian Princesses: you were our chief "Roaring Bull."  Roaring Bull was the perfect name for you. You could certainly Roar.
Fishing. You were a very determined fisherman though I'm not sure you were very good at it.  Many mornings of my life were spent sitting in your boat on some lake watching the sun rise.  We caught few fish but we enjoyed our time scooting around the lake and watching the natural world wake up around us.
Softball. It all began around age 5 with a pink plastic bat and a little yellow ball.  Next came t-ball and then years of softball.  You never missed a game.  The rides home were the best.  First we would dissect the game and then we would talk about the meaning of life.  We have always been so honest with one another.
The Hunting Camp: driving around and looking for wild boars, bear, deer and cows.  Oh, what fun we had at the hunting camp.  Thank you, Dad. "Mooooooooo"
Writing: you wrote the best letters to me when I was a summer camp. You would create ongoing stories with fictional characters that would last throughout the summer.  I received a letter from you ever day at camp.  Also, you loved to write and wrote so well.  Your blogs made you famous.
Your clothes...now, dad,  I just never could be okay with some of your wardrobe creations.  Come on, I loved you and all but you can't embarrass your teenage daughter like that. Enough said... or do I need to bring up the mesh Jamaica No Problem shirt. Oh boy.
Bruno:  the worlds craziest dog and yet your best friend for a long time.  Bruno was a rambunctious little beagle who barked too much - but lived fiercely and loved his daddy.
Swimming:  You would only get in the water on Aug 8 of every year and only if the water was 90 degrees. On that day we spashed and played and had such a good time and then you would make us wait a whole year to do it again.
Ben Gay: You once put ben gay on your tooth brush rather than colgate.  The tubes looked just alike.  This still cracks me up.  You were not happy.
You know your made up of similar genetics when you discover that we both have a gene for not closing water bottles nor zipping bags or putting caps bag on toothpaste.  Our spouses will never understand this genetic predispositon that we absolutely have no control over.
JoAnn: you married your soul mate and lived happily ever after.  I'm so proud of you for the way to pushed through some really hard times and ultimately discovered a rich and beautiful life.

Our last visit together was beautiful. It was honest and comfortable, filled with hope and memories and a great deal of laughter.  I'm so glad we had that time together.
I love you, Dad.  I'm so glad I could share life with you.  Your daughter. Susanne
